Alison O’Brien – Qualified Teacher

I have been teaching English for over 13 years and in my previous life I was a newspaper journalist and sub-editor, so language is at the heart of who I am and everything I do. I have a degree in English and Sociology, a Postgraduate in Newspaper Journalism, a Diploma in Production Journalism, and more recently a First Class Masters in International Development.
I have taught English as a second language in Greece, South East Asia, Northern Ireland and Ireland. I teach a wide range of ages from children to adults. In recent years I have mentored and tutored primary school children in English and Maths skills.
I have extensive experience of a wide range of English language exams such as TOEIC, the Cambridge suite of exams KET, PET, B2 First, C1 Advanced, BEC exams, Trinity preparation and IELTS. I have been a certified Cambridge Speaking Examiner for the last five years.
I am a passionate teacher and learner so I know just how important a good teacher is. In thirteen years of teaching, I have learnt the art of empathy and patience, when to push a student to achieve what they imagined impossible and when to stop them to look with pride on their achievements, with lots of fun thrown in along the way. There are no mistakes, just lessons learned along the way!
