English Language and Literature Tuition

Our English programme provides broad coverage of all areas of English language. We work with students from reception year children just starting to read up to GCSE level covering English Language and English Literature exams.

We build our curriculum around three core elements of:  words (covering spelling, vocabulary building, phonics and word classes); word arrangement (punctuation, grammar, parts of speech and language features); and, ‘read, analyse, create’ (covering reading, comprehension or understanding of what has been read and the writing of text both in response to questions and open-ended writing).

For primary students we are especially focused on SPaG (Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar) which the National Curriculum has placed emphasis on for the SATs (Standard Assessment Tests) at the end of Key Stage 1 (year 2) and Key Stage 2 (Year 6).

Over the last fifteen years we have developed our own comprehension and writing programme that has been continually updated to help students of all ages build their understanding of text, respond to questions and open ended or creative writing.

For older students undertaking literature examinations we have a number of teachers who can cover most exam boards and core texts. Working with those teachers our students learn to better analyse what they are reading, improve their understanding of the text and enhance their presentation of answers in exam structures.
